FAQ

Please refer to the following FAQ for self-support.

How do I turn off the optical modem?

There is a radio button located at the back of the modem, which can used to turn the modem off or on. Alternatively, the power plug can be used to turn it off and on.

Is the optical modem safe to use during a thunderstorm?

While optical fiber cables do not carry and transmit electricity, the modem requires power to function and hence it is advised to turn it off and unplug it from the power socket, should the house wiring not be properly grounded.

I see a red light on my optical modem – what should I do?

It indicates loss of optical signal, pls contact us and let us know about it.

Can I upgrade or downgrade between data-plans?

Most certainly, but only one data-plan change a month is allowed for billing purposes.

While away traveling or outstation - can I request temp disconnection and not be charged?

Yes – So, long as it’s for a month or more. We do not charge you for the period. However we do not entertain requests for a week or two weeks or mid month. Thanks.

What do we mean by Fair Usage Policy?

After the allotted GBs for the data-plan is used up for the month, we allow for users to make use of our services at reduced speeds of 256/512 Kbps for no additional charge. This, speed remains in effect until the end of the month; after which – the link automatically goes back up to normal speeds, when the new billing cycle kicks in. Users can choose to top-up additional data any time such to avoid drop in link speed.

Is it possible to download torrents?

Yes – torrent traffic is allowed on the network – so long as it’s legitimate and does not infringe copyright material.

Are all intranet services on AVCAN not charged for?

Yes – unless otherwise stated. WSUS, VOIP, Streaming and other services are now provided for no additional charge.

I'd like to disconnect for XYZ reason - can I give you back my optical modem/router?

Yes – and we will compensate you back for it (with depreciation).

I'd like for a HotSpot setup. How do I arrange for one?

Write to us info@aurinoco.net and we will get back to you for a feasibility test.

Can few residents in a community share a data-plan subscription?

While in principle Aurinoco does not either encourage or discourage the practice – we would like for our users to make an informed decision about it, by understanding for themselves the pros and cons about such a practice. While there clearly are some very obvious benefits, such as:

  1. Saving infrastructure costs.
  2. Less electromagnetic radiation and e-waste.

Some of the cons we can think of are:

  1. Without a proper QOS and a traffic shaping policy in place – it may lead to an unpleasant experience for all users sharing the specific connection.
  2. Also pls note, the subscriber signing for application will solely be responsible for all traffic passing through the optical modem, including but not limited to matters regarding intellectual property and infringement of copyrighted material.
  3. Also in such scenarios, Aurinoco’s infrastructure support and troubleshooting.. will be limited to the optical modem only and Aurinoco Systems will not be responsible for internal networking.
